Our Purpose & Vision

Why does our church exist? And what are we here to do?

Why does COL Nashville exist?

Because God deserves our worship.

He wants us to encounter Him.

We were never meant to follow Jesus outside of community.

And there are masses of people who don't know Him yet.

What are we here to do?

We are here to WORSHIP and glorify God,

ENCOUNTER the power of the Holy Spirit ,

BECOME disciples of Jesus who make disciples,

as we REACH those who don't know Jesus.

You were made to worship God. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, He responded with this as the first half:

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

Mark 12:30

That is worship! Loving God with everything we have. We want to do this in our gatherings on Sunday as well as in our lifestyle throughout the week. We are passionate about teaching people how to worship. One way we worship God in our gatherings is through songs. We are commanded throughout scripture to "sing unto the Lord" and "sing Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs". Worship is certainly more than a song, but it is not less than a song. Music is one of the few ways where we can worship God TOGETHER in one moment of unity. In this sense it is a taste of heaven on earth. People are very often encouraged, set free from heavy burdens, even physically healed in worship. But the most important thing is that God is lifted up and glorified. We give God our voice in times of worship (with a "joyful noise") but our worship must continue into a lifestyle of daily actions that bring Him glory. (Learn more below in the "Become Disciples" section.)

God is real and you can actually experience His reality in your everyday life. God can set you free from addiction and despair. He can heal your physical diseases. You can be filled with His power and have supernatural love, joy, and peace.

How do we know this? Because Jesus sent the Holy Spirit! Before Jesus ascended to heaven he said "it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you." (John 16:7 ESV)

The Holy Spirit is Jesus everywhere! No limits! And you can actually experience His freedom and power.

This doesn't mean that we won't go through pain and suffering or that our lives will be perfect. But it DOES mean that we will have His power and His presence with us in any circumstance. Our lives can actually be transformed by God's power! Which leads to the next point.

Jesus gave the disciples a simple invitation: "Follow Me."

Following Jesus isn't just believing in Him or aligning our values with His, though it certainly includes those things. Following Jesus is about totally re-arranging our life around Him. He is now our Lord. This means living his WAY, according to His TRUTH, so we can experience His LIFE. This also means inviting OTHERS into the life of Jesus. Real disciples go and make disciples! At COL Nashville we want to equip you to live this lifestyle.

One of the reasons we planted this church is because there are tens of thousands of people in our region who don't know Jesus. And even more of them who have some familiarity with Jesus, but have not experienced His power to heal and set them free from bondage! We are here to reach them.

We shared the first half of the great commandment ("love the Lord your God") but the second half is this: "love your neighbor as yourself." We are called to worship God, but if that worship stays in our church building and does not flow into the streets of our city, we have failed in being the true Church. We have been commissioned by Jesus to go into all the world and preach the good news of the salvation that is a free gift!
